Full employment for Whitby Telecommunications grads

June 28, 2001

Oshawa, Ontario - Before the last day of class, all nine students in Durham College's new Telecommunications Technician program had received job offers from Entourage Technology Solutions.

At a recent ceremony at Durham's Skills Training Centre to honour the new grads and their employment success, Entourage Technology Solutions executive Andrew Westcott, whose company was one of the three key partners that helped develop the program, said he was "very impressed at how Durham worked with Entourage" to create a new training standard for technicians entering the telecommunications industry.

During the ceremony, Entourage announced the creation of a $250 scholarship, which was presented to Carl Griesbach, the highest-ranking graduate.

"We're very proud of every graduate here today," noted Bev Balenko, vice-president of business and skills development at Durham College. "We are also thrilled to have such great support and input from Entourage, Bell Canada and the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada."

The 12-week fast-track program, which was launched this spring, provides training in the installation, maintenance and testing of low-voltage communication distribution systems and related equipment.
