Oshawa, Ontario - Where will my classes be held? What kind of sports does Durham offer? Where can I park my car?
These are just a few of the questions students ask when they head off to college for the first time. To help new students prepare for the start of classes on September 4, Durham College is holding two half-day orientations on Saturday, August 25. The orientations are for first-year post-secondary students whose programs are offered at the Oshawa campus. Family members are welcome to attend.
"Knowing their way around campus and taking care of housekeeping tasks in advance helps students begin their year fully prepared and with confidence," says Janice MacMillan, student success co-ordinator at the college.
"It's also a great opportunity to show new students that we care about them and to thank them for choosing our college," she adds. Students can tour the campus, buy course textbooks, check out the student centre, meet and speak with the professors, and a lot more.
The morning session gets under way at 9 a.m. and it is aimed at students registered in the schools of Business, Communication Arts, Design, Health and Human Studies. The afternoon orientation begins at 12:30 p.m. and it is for students in the schools of Administrative Studies, Applied Sciences, Justice Studies and Technology. The Durham College Student Association is hosting a barbeque lunch.
