Oshawa, Ontario - A partnership agreement between Durham College and Ontario Power Generation was officially signed today. The goal of the partnership is to co-develop and deliver the new two-year Mechanical Engineering Technician (Non Destructive Evaluation) program. The program will be offered at Durham College and it will help students attain the education and practical experience needed to successfully begin their careers in the nuclear or non-nuclear field. As well, the program will be based on the theoretical and practical training students need to pass the Canadian General Standards Board exam.
"To maintain its leading position and continue to provide excellence, OPG must increase significantly its number of non destructive evaluation personnel at all levels," stated Bryan Murdoch, Vice-President, Inspection Services Division, Ontario Power Generation. "The creation of the Mechanical Engineering Technician program will help OPG meet this critical need."
Gary Polonsky, President, Durham College, said, "This program will further entrench the college's reputation as a provider of cutting-edge training that leads to solid and rewarding employment opportunities. As well, this undertaking will further solidify Durham's partnership with OPG and help the college enhance its important links with employers and develop new industry partners."
Durham College and OPG have enjoyed a successful and rewarding relationship for a number of years. Durham has been delivering skilled trades and apprenticeship training to OPG employees for more than a decade, and OPG is considered one of Durham's premier corporate clients.
