Durham College's third-year Legal Administration students are taking charge of their futures by organizing a career fair. The fair will be held from noon to 3:30 p.m. on April 4 at the college's Oshawa campus. This will be the third annual Legal Administration career fair.
The students have invited 20 area employers. The event begins with a luncheon put on by the students, followed by guest speaker, Lesley Wagner, a 1985 Durham College graduate. Wagner will speak about her education and career, the college's Legal Administration program, this year's graduating class, and the skills and training employers value most. Immediately following the talk, employers have the opportunity to speak about their firms and the qualities they look for in potential employees.
The organization of this event is part of the curriculum of the Legal Administration program. Not only do students gain valuable organizational skills, they also have added opportunity to market themselves and their skills to employers in a familiar environment and participate in preliminary interviews.
Employers have the opportunity to meet and interview graduating students, as well learn more about the Legal Administration program and Durham College. The fair also enables employers and graduates to meet on a personal level prior to formal interviews.
Employers are given a book that contains each graduate's resume. Resume books are also available from the college's Career & Employment Centre (905-721-3034).
