Durham College has partnered with Veni Vidi, a Port Perry gallery and studio, to provide an artistic environment for some general interest art workshops.
Three new spring workshops offered at the gallery are Life Drawing, Life Drawing - Open Studio and Image Transfer Photography.
Life Drawing is an introductory class where first-time artists study gestural expression, contour, shape, anatomy, proportion and value with a live nude model.
Life Drawing - Open Studio was created for artists more experienced in drawing the human form using professional male and female models. The 12-week course is offered over 16 weeks to accommodate students.
Image Transfer Photography is a workshop that uses the Polaroid transfer process to create a framed print by combining time, texture, paper and temperature.
"We're really excited about Veni Vidi's affiliation with Durham College," said Charlotte Hale and Sandra Parkerof Veni Vidi.
"Classes were set up to provide the best experience for each artist, and environment is part of that equation," said Hale. "Veni Vidi's walk-up gallery/studio is relaxing, inspirational and energetic - all at the same time, without the typical stuffy feelings associated with galleries."
Ambiance best describes this spacious, sunlit gallery which features high ceilings, wooden floors and picture windows. Students are inspired to explore their creative side while surrounded by illuminated art pieces and listening to music.
"The integrity of this space, located in the historic Brock building, has been preserved in the renovations," Hale said. "Every student comments about how nice this room is."
Durham and Veni Vidi also offer six other art courses including Carving in Stone, Clay Head Bust, Comic Book Illustration, Fantasy Art, Hand-Tinting Photographs and InfraRed Film and the Sabbatier Process. Details about these workshops are on page A42 of Durham's Spring 2000 Course Book.
