Durham College's Reflections magazine has been judged the best college alumni magazine in the province in the 14th annual Trillium Awards competition. The college has won a Trillium Award of Excellence for Reflections for four of the past five years.
Reflections was among the 11 entries in the alumni magazine category of the Trillium competition, which recognizes excellence in marketing and promotional materials produced by Ontario colleges. The awards are sponsored by the College Committee on Advancement and the Association of Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology of Ontario.
Judges' comments about Reflections included "...excellent cover and inside design...inviting and appealing...was worked into the curriculum of the Public Relations program...." Submissions for the award were judged on a number of factors, including overall quality relative to the staff and resources used; how well the publication met its objectives; and the strategies used to achieve the intended results.
"Our students do a great job and they deserve the credit and the award. The award is a reflection of their hard work," says Ginny Colling, a journalism and public relations professor at Durham College.
Reflections has progressed considerably in format, quality and depth since the first issue was published in 1987. Today the magazine is produced three times a year by senior students in Durham's two-year public relations program. The full-colour magazine covers a wide range of topics including college news and profiles on alumni and professors, and it is mailed to approximately 11,500 college graduates.
Durham alumni who do not receive this award-winning magazine on a regular basis and would like to, should call Lori Connor, alumni officer, at (905) 721-3035.
