Career Fair '99 gives employers edge on productivity

March 8, 1999

Employers who view productivity as key to their bottom-line success will be keenly interested in the one-day career fair at Durham College.

There is still some space available at this exciting event, where employers can meet up to 1,500 highly trained and motivated Durham College students who will soon be launching their careers. Employers can save a lot of time and money in recruiting for current and future vacancies at Career Fair '99, plus raise awareness of their organizations among hundreds of graduating Durham College students.

Career Fair '99 will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, in the gymnasium at Durham College's campus in north Oshawa.

"Leading Canadian businesspeople and politicians stress the critical role improved productivity can play in raising this country's competitiveness. Without a doubt, the students we graduate possess the superb blend of technical skills, problem-solving ability and enthusiasm employers need to excel now and in the years ahead," says Gary Polonsky, Durham College president.

The annual, college-wide career fair was an immediate success when it was first held in 1998. That year, the fair attracted more than 120 representatives from more than 60 employers, plus approximately 1,000 graduating Durham students.

"All our programs train students in the latest skills and provide them with plenty of hands-on experience. Employers with a highly qualified and dedicated workforce are in an excellent position to boost productivity," adds Margaret Greenley, director of the college's Career and Employment Services.

Employers who took part in last year's career fair raved about the event and the calibre of Durham College students. One businessperson commented, "Great career fair...one of the best I've ever attended," while another said, "...very impressed with the confidence and professionalism of the students."

Dozens of employers including EDS Canada, Messier-Dowty and Nokia have already registered for Career Fair '99.
