Durham College has great news for success-bound students

May 4, 1999

There's great news in store for those who want to attend a top-rated community college this fall.

On May 14, Durham College will begin mailing acceptance letters to thousands of students who have applied to attend Durham in September. As of late April, applications to the college's post-secondary programs were up 11 per cent from a year ago.

Durham's popularity is no secret to students like Eric Soehner.

"The professors are dedicated to making the experience enjoyable and to preparing students for the workforce," says Mr. Soehner, who has just completed his first year in the college's Mechtronics program. "The lab equipment is exactly what you'd find in industry."

Durham College president Gary Polonsky echoes Mr. Soehner's views.

"Durham is a great place to study," says Mr. Polonsky. "We offer more than 50 career-oriented programs, outstanding faculty and staff, excellent facilities and a friendly, success-oriented atmosphere."

Among the hot diploma programs still available at Durham College this September are the brand-new Website Design, Design Foundation and Financial Planning.

In the two-year Website Design program students acquire both theory and extensive practice in the creation of static and dynamic Websites. The one-year Design Foundation program is ideal for artistically inclined students who plan to further their formal training. Design Foundation graduates can apply to Durham's Multimedia Design, Graphic Design or Website Design programs.

Financial Planning is a two-year program that covers a range of topics including risk management, investment products and personal financial planning. Students complete all the courses necessary to write the Canadian Institute of Financial Planning (CIFP) exams and gain practical experience through a field placement with an employer.

For students who haven't made their final decisions about what they'll study this fall, certain Durham College programs in business, technology, computers, Website design and other areas still have room. Some of the college's skilled trades programs also have space.
