Durham College convocation speakers shared wisdom, experience with class of '99

At Durham College's 31st convocation ceremonies on Friday, June 18, three accomplished alumni addressed graduating students and their guests. About 1,350 students from the Arts & Administration, Business, Business & Skills, Health & Human Studies and Technology divisions graduated this year. Convocation was held at the Civic Auditorium in Oshawa and there was a 10 a.m., a 2 p.m. and a 6 p.m. ceremony.

Vicki Stewart, a '77 Legal Administration grad, addressed the morning ceremony. Ms. Stewart, a full-time professor at Durham College, has many accomplishments to her credit. She launched her own real estate conveyancing business, served on a college advisory committee and Durham's board of governors, and obtained her FRIE (Fellow Real Estate Institute Executive) designation from the Real Estate Institute of Canada.

Paul Vessey, a '75 Business Administration-Marketing grad, spoke at the afternoon ceremony. As executive vice-president, personal & commercial bank at CIBC, Mr.Vessey is charged with developing and managing the bank's consumer credit products and services. In his other role as executive vice-president, personal lending, he has senior responsibilities including CIBC Mortgages Inc. and CIBC Finance Inc. As well, Mr. Vessey serves on the board of directors of Visa International, Women's College Hospital, the Toronto Film Festival and other groups.

Lorraine Sunstrum-Mann, an '88 Nursing grad, addressed the evening ceremony. Ms. Sunstrum-Mann has progressed through a number of positions and responsibilities at Lakeridge Health Corporation and she is currently program leader for general medicine and family medicine. She received her BA from York University in 1998 and is now working on an MBA and a Masters of Health Science in Nursing. As well, Ms. Sunstrum-Mann is president elect of the Durham Northumberland chapter of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.
