Durham College will recognize more than 120 top achieving students at the 1999 Scholarship Ceremony on Wednesday, November 10. The ceremony begins at 4 p.m. in the Market Place at the College's Oshawa Campus.
Awards will be presented to the top two second- and third-year students in each program of the Arts & Administration, Business Administration, Health & Human Studies, and Technology divisions.
Scholarships will also be awarded to first-year postsecondary students who were in Academic Upgrading and Durham College preparation programs such as Pre-Arts & Administration, Pre-Health, Pre-Business, and Pre-Technology. Again this year, awards will be presented to Electrical Apprenticeship Training and Electrical Techniques students.
Most scholarships are donated by local companies, organizations, citizens and Durham College staff. During the ceremony, staff and students will take pleasure in recognizing six organizations for their long-time participation and will present them with a 20-Year Recognition Award. These organizations are: BDO Dunwoody, Simcoe Engineering, The Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Rotary Club of Oshawa, Andrew Foundation, and Madgett, Roberts, Marlowe, Jackson & Chappelle. In addition, Durham College is pleased to welcome the following new donors: Frank Cowan Company, LifeLong Learning, and Business & Professional Women of Durham. Each of the new donors will receive a New Donor Participation Award.
"It is gratifying to see so many community leaders promote student achievement and goodwill," said Gary Polonsky, President of Durham College. "Collectively, they demonstrate their commitment to excellence in education, and we thank them."
Students in all programs are eligible to receive awards.
