May 7, 1997

Durham College North Campus is pleased to offer "Summer Job Services", a new program subsidized by the Ministry of Education and Training - Workplace Preparation Branch which will support summer employment for youth.

"This continuous intake program is designed to provide today's youth with information, knowledge and skills to find jobs on their own," stated Martin Cooney, Durham College North Campus. "Youth will be able to identify their individual skills and interests, complete job applications, prepare resumes, develop job search strategies and prepare for interviews."

To take advantage of this program, individuals must be between the ages of 15-24 (29 if disabled), have not worked for more than 15 hours with the same employer, are planning to return to school in the fall, residents of Ontario and eligible to work in Canada and they cannot be hired by a person who is related to them.

Eligible employers must be: operating in Ontario, have Worker's Compensation Board coverage and not be related to the person they are hiring. In return, these employers will benefit from a $2 per hour wage subsidy and have access to youth who are ready and willing to work in the summer.
