Celebration of Success

May 30, 1997

Congratulations go out to eleven Durham College staff and nine community participants who were the first to complete the five course requirements for the Bachelor of Education degree in Adult Education from Brock University. These requirements were completed in the part-time professional development program for teachers of adults.

The eleven Durham College staff members are: Midge Day, Margaret Greenley, Terri Healy, Sandy MacDonald, Tom Marley, Ernie Rainbow, Tricia Revell, Kathy Rhodes, Jan Robinson and Lynne Scott. The community participants include: Steve Austin, Craig Davidson, Louise Jones, Susan Lago, Anette Lang, Judy Parker, Debbie Purvis, Gary Rosborough and Mary Tiessen.

This program is unique. It is specifically designed to prepare people to teach adult learners. The five courses in the program are delivered through a combination of discussions and seminars. Classes are led by an on-site facilitator, while Brock University professors and guest lecturers appear on video tapes which participants watch in class. The video tapes, produced by TV Ontario, are integrated with class discussions and assignments.

"The week-end schedule provides an excellent opportunity for Durham staff to pursue their degree because of the convenience and the opportunity to work with colleagues," stated Margaret Greenley, one of the program participants.

The next course offering is scheduled for September 1997 on alternate weekends with meetings on Friday evening from 5 to 8 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm. The cost of the program is $900.00 per course.
