Durham College is holding a special ceremony for its graduating Malaysian students on Friday, August 8, 1997 at 10:00 am in the Durham College Community Room, Gordon Willey Building, 2000 Simcoe St. North, Oshawa.
Eight students, sponsored by the Malaysian government, who have been attending Durham College for the past two years, will be graduating from Durham College's Electronic Engineering Technology program (computer option). Some of these graduates plan to continue their studies at university where they will add an Engineering degree to their recently acquired Durham College diploma.
Malaysia, a southeast Asian nation, is one of the most rapidly developing economies in the world. It is making extensive use of automation to sustain its growth in high technology industries such as electronic equipment manufacturing and automobile assembly.
"Our Malaysian graduates can look forward to being in high demand for their skills," says Barry Stedman-Smith, Director, International Education. "They will occupy key positions in the Malaysian growing economy."
Durham, along with other Ontario colleges, offer a wide range of programs to international students. These students will bring international business opportunities to Canada in the future. Having learned Canadian Technology during their studies and visiting many Canadian automation industries, they will seek Durham College contacts to purchase Canadian equipment after they return to Malaysia.
