Six new members have joined the Durham College Board of Governors. Peter Bagnall of Oshawa, Louise M.C. Farr of Pickering, Bob Strickert of Port Perry and Douglas E. Wilson of Uxbridge were appointed by the Council of Regents to represent the community. Vaso Vujanovic of Oshawa was elected to be the administrative representative and Todd Gibbs is the elected student representative.
Peter Bagnall is the General Director, Customer Support Services for General Motors of Canada Ltd. Mr. Bagnall is responsible for the entire customer support portfolio for General Motors dealerships across Canada. He joined General Motors in 1965 and has held positions of increasing responsibility until he assumed his present position in 1991. He is a graduate of Waterloo Lutheran University and has attended General Motors Training Program at University of Western Ontario. As an active community member, he is the co-chair of Creating Futures Durham College and University Centre Campaign.
Louise M. C. Farr is a Campaign Associate for the 1997 United Way of Ajax and Pickering campaign. Through her diverse career and volunteer positions, Ms. Farr has gained strong communication and decision making skills as well as a unique ability to lead and motivate others. In the past, she has held positions of Chair and Vice-Chair for the Board of Trustees, Durham Board of Education and a Liaison Officer for Durham College. In her commitment to community and public service, she has volunteered her expertise to serve as a member of Creating Futures Durham College and University Centre Fund Campaign, was a member of the Board of Trustees for the Robert McLaughlin Gallery and was a member of the Board of Directors and a member of the executive team for the Durham Region Violence Prevention Council.
Bob Strickert is the Site Vice-President of Darlington Nuclear Generating Division, Ontario Hydro. For the past 26 years, Mr. Strickert's various supervisory, managerial and engineering positions have enabled him to deal on a national and international level. He was involved in Managerial assignments at Pickering, Ontario Hydro Head Office and the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria. Mr. Strickert is a graduate of Queen's University, Faculty of Chemical Engineering.
Mr. Douglas E. Wilson has a corporate/commercial law practice in Uxbridge. Throughout his career, Mr. Wilson has delivered numerous seminars concerning legal issues, lectured adult education classes and conducted seminars in conjunction with professional financial planners. Heavily involved in his community, Mr. Wilson is the Charter President for the Rotary Club of Uxbridge and is a member of the Uxbridge Chamber of Commerce. In the past, he was the founding member of the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Foundation and held the position of Chair and Vice-Chair for the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital Board of Directors.
Vaso Vujanovic joins the Board as the administrative representative. Mr. Vujanovic is a Durham College Business Administration graduate who has completed his CGA designation and currently holds the position of Director, Financial Services. As a sports enthusiast, Mr. Vujanovic has devoted time, talent and energy to the Durham Region Soccer Association. For the past 20 years, he has administered, coached and developed the soccer program for youth and adults throughout the region and was a charter inductee into the Durham College Sports Hall of Fame.
Todd Gibbs joins the Board as the student representative. This third Year Business Administration, Operations Management student from Oshawa is a graduate of G.L. Roberts Collegiate and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from York University. Involved in student life and his community, Mr. Gibbs is Chair, Moose Lodge Youth Dart League, an Advisor for Junior Achievement, and a Durham College tutor for students experiencing difficulty in such subjects as statistics, math and operations management.
The Durham College Board of Governors is comprised of 17 members. Twelve are appointed from the external community by the Council of Regents. Four are elected from internal constituents - students, faculty, support staff and administration-with the President as an ex-officio member of the board. External members are appointed for terms of three years and may be reappointed for an additional three year period.
