OSHAWA, Ont. - Have you ever wondered what goes on when you see paramedics working on patients at an accident scene or a medical emergency? In most cases, media crews are able to cover these emergency situations but only from a distance and usually after the fact.
The third annual Durham Paramedic Association (DPA) Skills Competition provides a unique opportunity to observe paramedics in action-with a close up and personal view of the life saving skills used by paramedics across the province every day.
Thirty Ontario teams from as far away as Thunder Bay and Windsor will converge on the Whitby Campus of Durham College on Saturday, April 2 to compete and display their skills in this professional development competition. The teams represent the best in emergency medical services in Ontario, including Advanced and Primary Care paramedics. Additionally, student paramedic teams from six community colleges will compete in a student category.
As a non-profit event of the DPA, proceeds raised from the competition will go to the Starlight Foundation in Durham Region.
The competition begins at 9 a.m. and will provide an extremely interesting day for the public. There are several excellent video and photo opportunities, and representatives will be available to field questions and provide additional information throughout the day.
The competition winds up with an awards dinner and dance to celebrate the successes of all participants.
