The Mackie family makes significant donation towards helping single parents obtain post-secondary education
May 25, 2006
OSHAWA, Ont. - The Mackie family - one of the largest and most respected families in the transportation industry, owners and operators of one of Canada's largest Harley Davidson dealerships, and honorary co-chairs of the 2006 Legacy Gala - have announced a major financial contribution to single parent students committed to raising their children while obtaining post-secondary education at Durham College.
"As a family and through the Mackie Group of companies, we remain committed to supporting the area where we grew up, and continue to live and work today," said Ross Mackie, president of The Mackie Group. "We strive to offer our clients the highest standard of quality, professionalism and customer service, and are proud to support Durham College - a local institution that shares our values and a commitment to student success that is second to none."
The Mackie family's donation will be used through the gala to create a bursary designed to benefit a single parent student with a proven financial need who is also enrolled in a full-time post-secondary program at Durham College.
"Durham College applauds the ongoing courage demonstrated by our single parent students who are balancing full-time post-secondary education with raising a family," said Leah Myers, president of Durham College. "I admire the Mackie family's commitment to helping these unique students - and their families - and am grateful for their support as we help them gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to be successful in the workplace."
The Legacy Gala is held annually to raise funds for students attending Durham College and the University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
