OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College is pleased to announce that Ian Ball, Jeffrey S. Boyce and Sheila Corriveau will be honoured with 2006 Alumni of Distinction Awards at spring convocation this Friday.
Ball graduated from the college's Business Administration and Marketing program in 2002 and has achieved remarkable success since that time. In addition to obtaining his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Ryerson University, he has dedicated himself to a number of significant endeavours including head of investor relations at Goldcorp Inc., playing a critical role in the creation of McEwan Capital, and successfully completing a number of corporate mergers and acquisitions. At age 23, Ball was also one of Canada's youngest vice presidents of a publicly traded company.
His professional achievements resulted in a succession of impressive promotions including his most recent appointment to vice president of corporate development with Lexam Explorations.
Ball supports Durham College annually through the scholarship and bursary program, helping youth obtain their dream of earning a post-secondary education.
Boyce graduated from the Business Administration program in 1980 with a focus on marketing and achieved great success in numerous professional fields in the years that followed.
As co-founder of Vermilion Resources, he led the company to success both domestically and overseas and then founded Clear Energy Inc. - a publicly traded corporation in the oil and gas sector with a value of $250 million.
Recognizing the value and importance of community participation, Boyce has been an active volunteer with the United Way as well as various community associations and minor league sports organizations. In 2004, he was recognized by Ernst and Young as the 2004 Entrepreneur of the Year.
Corriveau graduated from the Creative Arts and Design program in 1988 with a diploma in public relations. Following graduation, she held a number of senior positions in the public relations sector, including partner, president and chief executive officer of Porter Novelli Canada. She was recently appointed to a global leadership position with Porter Novelli as Partner and Global Network Director.
Contributing to the long-term growth of Porter Novelli, Corriveau maintains a commitment to the public relations sector and Durham College by consistently working to support students and recent graduates as they find their niche in the communications world.
She has also been recognized for her achievements by her peers including being awarded Public Relations Professional of the Year at the 2005 Ace Awards.
The Alumni of Distinction Awards recognize graduates who have excelled in their careers and contributed to the development of the college and/or their communities. Over 40 alumni have received this distinction since the awards launched in 1991.
