Campus community to celebrate exciting new phase in college's 40-year history
OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College students, faculty, staff, alumni and business partners, as well as community members and distinguished guests will come together next Wednesday as the Durham College Board of Governors officially installs Leah Myers as the college's new president.
Myers brings strong leadership and extensive experience in post-secondary education and training issues to the college based on a 20-year career in the Ontario Public Service and a lifelong commitment to the value of education and training in building a prosperous economy and society.
A longtime resident of the GTA, Myers played a key role in the design and start-up of the Ministry of Research and Innovation, a new ministry led by Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, immediately prior to joining Durham College. She was also the executive director of the Secretariat that provided research, policy, consultation, and project support to the Postsecondary Review conducted by former Ontario premier the Honourable Bob Rae in 2004, which resulted in significant new investments in colleges and universities.
With an emphasis on the history of success Durham College is known for, the event will welcome academic colleagues from across Ontario and municipal and provincial leaders from the GTA.
Past presidents of Durham College are Dr. Gordon Willey, Mel Garland and Dr. Gary Polonsky, who retired last spring.
