OSHAWA, Ont. - On Thursday, November 9 join Durham College President Leah Myers, faculty, staff and students as the college hosts its annual Fall Scholarship Reception to celebrate academic excellence.
The college is handing out 192 awards, valued at more than $140,000, to 177 outstanding students representing all diploma programs at the Oshawa and Whitby campuses. Among those being honoured are the top two students in full-time studies in each program, with the awards valued at $1,000 and $500 respectively. New honours this year include the Victorian Order of Nurses and the Court and Tribunal Agent/Paralegal awards.
Along with a Durham College contribution, numerous individuals, service organizations and corporate donors have made the awards possible, providing recognition and a welcome financial boost to the college's academic leaders. The Canadian Federation of University Women has been a donor since 1975, while five organizations are marking 30 years of giving: Andrew Foundation; BDO Dunwoody LLP; FKI Logistex; Roberts, Marlowe, Jackson, Jackson and Associates; and Millwork Home Centre.
The ongoing generous support of community sponsors has helped the annual Scholarship Reception grow from 25 awards in 1974 to its current total of almost 200.
